HDM developed a custom application for the USDA's to help ensure access to food and nutrition assistance services. The application combines data from a variety of sources, including a special cross-tabulation of data identifying the locations eligible clients by age and income level. Straight-line distance and street network distance can be compared, providing a measurement of access. As a result of this work, barriers to access were identified and service delivery was improved.
