Cambridge, MA ... A major independent research study identified Harvard Design & Mapping Co., Inc. (HDM) as a leading provider of strategic risk management technology for the property and casualty industry.

The study entitled "The Challenge and Methods of Modeling Natural Risks" was published by the TowerGroup, a provider of information technology research and consulting services. It details how until recently, the process of geographically representing exposures to natural risks underwriters was laborious, requiring the manual transfer of property data from spreadsheets to actual geographic maps.

Richard Roby, research director for TowerGroup's Insurance Practice, identifies HDM as able to provide "support when an insurance company wishes to expand the use of geo-coded information from the desktop to the enterprise." Roby goes on to say that "HDM designs, implements, and integrates a data warehouse that can be used for decision support across the organization. The integration that occurs is among cleansed geo-coded data from the legacy systems and the map data warehouse and front-office risk analysts and underwriters. The decision support applications with which they integrate may be made available on an intranet, via a browser, over an extranet, or over a LAN/WAN".

Ms. Kija Kim, President and co-founder of HDM said "this recognition of HDM as a provider of advanced risk management technology to the property and casualty insurers comes at a time when insurance companies need strategic tools to better assess portfolio risk. HDM's Visual Business Intelligence systems, based on the integration of geographic information systems (GIS), data mining, and verified geo-coded corporate data, can add significant enhancements to insurer's profitability. We are pleased to have been featured in the TowerGroup report".
