Boston Edison CADIMAGE Project Receives the Excellence in GIS Award

Cambridge, MA ... Boston Edison Company, a major electric utility serving over 650,000 retail customers in Metropolitan Boston was the recipient of the Excellence Award from AM/FM International, a professional providing excellence in information exchange on the use and benefits of geospatial information and technology in telecommunications, infrastructure, and utility applications worldwide.

The Excellence Award is AM/FM International's most prestigious award, recognizing user organizations for outstanding application of AM/FM/GIS technology. Boston Edison received this award for their CADIMAGE AM/FM network GIS project. The project successfully integrated several major GIS applications systems with existing corporate information technology. The resulting system supports a database of over 210,00 poles. 7,500 miles of underground cable, 27,000 manholes, 14,500 miles of overhead wire, 1,100 miles of ductbank and conduit, 52,000 transformers and a vast array of other switches, reactors and structures.

In accepting this very important award, Richard Cohane, Boston Edison's CADIMAGE GIS Project Manger, acknowledged the vital contributions of Harvard Design and Mapping (HDM), Boston Edison's primary GIS application development consultant on this project. Mr. Cohane acknowledged HDM's technology, leadership, innovation and corporate commitment as outstanding and deserving of much credit for the project's success.
