Kija Kim Receives Women in Business Leadership Award

Cambridge, MA ... Concord resident Kija Kim is one of 12 New England women to receive this year's Women in Business Leadership Award from The New England Council. "I am very honored to be recognized in this way," she said upon receiving the award.

Kim is co-founder, president and CEO of Harvard Design & Mapping Company (HDM) of Cambridge, MA. The company specializes in geographic information systems (GIS) and desktop mapping applications. Currently, HDM is involved in a number of projects including a large-scale project for Boston Edison.

An active participant in business, political and community affairs, Kim has been an adviser on technology issues to the Clinton administration. She has met with President Clinton, Vice President Gore and a number of Cabinet-level officials to review various business, technology, finance, transportation and environmental issues. She has also been active on the state level, accompanying Massachusetts Governor Weld on environmental trade missions to Asia in 1991 and to Mexico in 1992.

Ms. Kim is an active advocate for the Asian American community, leading Governor Weld to appoint Ms. Kim to the Massachusetts Asian American Commission in 1992. Ms. Kim has also been recognized for her efforts in combating domestic violence in the Asian community.
