September 26, 2005 ... HazardMaps.gov, the public hazard data access site developed by HDM for the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), has reached a momentous milestone. The site passed the 3.5 million hit mark. Traffic on the site has increased dramatically since Hurricanes Katrina and Rita hit the Gulf Coast of the United States in August and September, 2005. Launched in May 2002, HazardMaps.gov has over 2,000 unique data layers of static and real time information from around the world. It is the leading internet portal for multi-hazard mapping and information.
